Security and Privacy Issues

The course is designed for Master students with mostly non-IT background to raise awareness of the security and privacy related problems in today's new media.

In Spring 2009, the course takes place in the form of an intensive 4-day working session plus a couple of weeks for independent work. The quick link to materials is here.

The independent work

The grade is based on three works (no special grading event will be held):

• A course paper on a freely chosen topic (in the bounds of the general theme of S&P), confirming the title beforehands at the supervisor is recommended. 5-10 pages, subject to general academic criteria.
• Short case studies on three freely chosen, interesting real life security/privacy cases, including a brief analysis. 0,5-1 pages each, 2-3 pages total.
• A brief analysis of IT security practices at one's workplace, school or even home, about 1 page. Care should be taken not to violate any local rules!

The paper gives 50%, the case studies 30% and the security analysis 20% of the total grade.

The deadline of the written works is February 28, to be submitted by e-mail.
